Class dates: 5/10-5/31

What the class will cover:

This is a great way to try out a variety of materials and surface decoration techniques you can use on larger projects.

Learn surface decoration techniques to make & glaze focal pieces for jewelry, buttons, and other small adornments!

Techniques covered in this class will include how to use rollers, texture mats and silicone molds to create small textured objects. Objects will be worked flat and left unglazed on the back. This allows students to create charms without the need for special kiln racks.

~We will pay special attention to how to carefully clean our creations without losing details, to make them as smooth as possible and comfortable enough to be wearable art.~

Surface decoration techniques will include washes, underglazes, stains, and glazes. Students will receive guidance on how to mix these techniques to achieve interest and depth in their textured work.

Students will learn how to embed special kiln-safe wire at the soft clay stage for attachments, as well as a simple jewelry wire wrap and jump ring technique to use on finished work.

Projects will include-

Buttons in matching sets of two or three. Handmade buttons are cherished by fiber artists and knitters to give their pieces that special finishing touch.

Earrings and/or pendants. Findings (such as hoops, wires, and beads) will be provided. Small fidget objects.

Students will make a lovely variety of small adornments, and develop a new set of surface decorating techniques to carry on with them!
