This class will meet twice per week on Mondays and Wednesdays 5:30 - 8:30 pm, starting on November 28th and ending on December 21st. Class will not meet on Hanukkah (Dec. 19th) The 4 week Intro to Pottery is a great course for those who are interested in working with clay and want to try both handbuilding and pottery wheel throwing, or want to refresh their pottery skills in a condensed time frame compared to an 8 week course. This short course is the same amount of class time as an 8 week course but in a shorter period of time. Lily will teach several handbuilding techniques which may include pinch pots, slab built forms, and coil pots, and also how to use the pottery wheel to make cylinders and small bowls. Glazing will also be taught and students will create several projects to take home and enjoy during this class. Glazes, firing charges and one bag of clay per student are included in the class price. Each student may also have 6 hours of studio time per week outside of their class time to work on projects at the studio. Community tools are provided but you may bring your own tools to use or purchase a tool kit for $10. Students get one 24 x 18 x 16 inch shelf to store projects and materials. In beginning wheel, your instructor Tiahna will guide you through the steps of using the pottery wheel to make cups, bowls and other simple forms. Students will build a foundation of basic knowledge on using the pottery wheel to form and then trim their pots. Tiahna will also teach about the stages of clay, from wet clay to leather hard, glazing your bisqueware to having a finished pot! This class is good for those with little or no clay experience or those who want to refresh their knowledge after some time away. Many people choose to repeat beginning wheel more than once, or until they can center clay and make cylinders without instruction before moving on to an intermediate wheel class. Over the 8 sessions of your class, you will learn how to center a ball of clay on the wheel, pull up the walls of the clay to form small cylinders and bowls, trim your pot when it reaches the leather hard stage, and how to glaze your new creation. By the end of this class students will have completed several projects to take home and enjoy. This class will meet once per week for 8 consecutive weeks starting on Friday, June 23rd at 11 am. Out of stockMemberships are available for ceramic artists with some experience to work independently in the studio on our equipment. To be a member you must have either 2 years of prior ceramics experience, or have taken 3 classes at Cascade if you are a beginner. This prerequisite is to ensure your happiness and safety as a member. This membership grants 24/7 Monthly Studio access by key fob to work at your desired convenience. We don't require scheduled "in-studio" time since we have 12 member designated wheels that are never full. You are provided your own 18 x 48 shelf to use. Memberships are automatically charged on your card each month until you cancel in the system and notify us two weeks in advance if you wish to stop. Glazing and firings are included. We take care of the firings on a continual basis. Items are loaded as soon as they are ready to be fired. We fire at cone 6. You may purchase Georgie's clay in the studio. If you bring in outside clay or glazes, please check with us that it fits our firing parameters before using it. We provide a nice variety of Georgie's and Amaco glazes and underglazes to use on your pieces. We have two large worktables with many handbuilding tools and banding wheels as well as many other community tools available for use in the studio. We have a Northstar slab roller, a large hardy-board wedging table and so on. We provide WIFI and take turns picking the music station. Make your own fairy house with Lily! On the first day of this workshop, June 17th, students will be provided clay to create small to medium slab built fairy houses. These can hold tea lights, cover things in the yard/garden or just be a decorative piece. You’ll be shown multiple ways to decorate your houses, with clay additions such as sprig molds, coils, and carving and may customize your fairy house however you want. Students will return on July 1st to paint the fairy houses with glaze. Lily will first demonstrate glazing styles and techniques, then instruct as you glaze your fairy house. Finished pieces will be ready about 1 week later. All materials provided & beginner friendly. Minimum age 16 please.

Do you love creating with clay? Are you interested in learning how to decorate your work with underglaze transfers? Look no further! Tiahna has 3+ years of experience applying several different underglaze transfers from various suppliers and is eager to share her knowledge with you. Tiahna will provide in person demonstration and assistance on how to apply transfers from a selection provided, or you’re more than welcome to bring your own! Come have fun while learning how to apply underglaze transfers onto pre-made pots! Pots will be glazed in clear and ready to pickup 4-7 days after the workshop. November 19, 2-4 pm. Join Lily in making bright and beautiful pollinator/bird baths! In this workshop students will be provided clay to create small to medium bird/pollinator baths for their yards and gardens. Lily will go over pedestals, low sitting shapes and ones to hang. Students will be able to sculpt “islands” in the pollinator baths to give its tiny users access to the water. Once the baths are formed, lily will instruct on using underglaze paints in colors to attract pollinators. Lily will first explain and demonstrate glazing, then help you through the process. Finished pieces will be ready 2 - 3 weeks after the workshop. All materials provided & beginner friendly workshop. 3 hour workshop. Minimum age 16 please. :)

Handbuilding 2 is a class for people who want to build on their existing handbuilding skills to make more complex projects, and gain more technical skills. Projects will explore several sculptural techniques to create a tile image and a small bust. Students will also be guided in using the slab roller and extruder to make slabs and coils for creating functional items such as pouring vessels, vases, and lidded jars. More advanced glazing and surface design techniques will be offered, such as under glazing, water etching, and wax resist patterning with glazes.

In this class we will focus on more complex forms and attachments (different handle forms, spouts, etc), as well as surface decoration and alteration. We will learn how to complete forms cleanly and unified, meaning your attachments and designs will be clean and "professional" looking, as well as cleaner glaze application.Complex forms and projects are welcomed and encouraged! Join us for a one time class on the potters wheel! Jaz will first demonstrate the process of making a cylinder or bowl and then give you individual feedback as you make your own pot. This is a 1.5 hour class and participants will have time to make up to 2 pots. You can choose to keep one pot that you made. We will fire your pot in the kiln once it is dry and glaze fire it with one of 8 glazes you have to choose from. Glazed pots will be ready to pick up 3 weeks after the workshop and we will email you when they are ready to pick up.
