    Come spend a creative day at the potter’s wheel! This workshop is ideal for beginners who are eager to explore the wheel and check out our studio. Your instructor will start by guiding you through the basics of pottery, demonstrating how to create a simple cup. Together, we’ll work on making cylinders, and then you'll have time to shape your own, receiving personalized feedback along the way. The session will wrap up 25 minutes early for clean-up and to choose your glaze colors. Your instructor will take care of firing and glazing your pieces, which will typically be ready for pick-up 4-6 weeks after the workshop.     In this class, we will explore 8 different styles of lid fits! Each week will focus on one or two styles of lidded vessels, culminating in the final project- a large candy jar. Spider collaring, test tile rings and closed forms are just a few of the techniques we will practice on our journey to the perfect jar.   • In this class, learn how to use pinching, slabs, and coils to make small scale functional and decorative projects. Students will be introduced to the proper procedures of working with the clay, drying their projects, and the bisque and glaze firing processes. Each week will cover a new technique, including pinched bowls, slab plates, and coiled cylinders. The projects will culminate in making a lidded jar and a wall-hanging piece. Lily will also teach the glazing process including wax resist, hand dipping, pouring, using dipping tongs, and brushing glaze. Every week Lily will offer multiple options to explore each technique, making this class friendly for both those new to clay and those who are looking to continue adding to their skills.   • In this intermediate wheel class, students will enhance their wall pulling skills and detail refinement, learn to throw larger amounts of clay, and make various functional pots such as tumblers, plates, pitchers and lidded jars. Week one will be a throwing exercise of making a 4-pull cylinder/tumbler, followed by a trimming demo on week two. The third week will be centering larger pieces of clay to make large bowls and plates, then glaze demo on week four. The last two projects will be a pitcher with a pulled spout, and lidded jars with inset galleries.  Lily will also share how to create interesting forms through alterations like darting, paddling and altering rims.   • In this advanced handbuilding class, students will be encouraged to explore large-scale, decoration, and sculpture to enhance their skills and possibilities. Lily will cover how to combine techniques to achieve the best result, use heat/time to help create larger work, and how to create sculptural elements of decoration. Projects will include a large coiled vase/storage pot, a lidded serving dish, a pouring-pot (think pitcher, olive oil ewer, teapot), and a sculpture based on either a reference image/object or sketch. Surface design techniques will cover underglazing on leather hard, and various ways of etching, inlaying, and layering color and design before and during the glazing process This class will start on January 6th and end on February 24th.   • In this beginning wheel class, Lily will introduce students to the process of pottery with centering the clay, pulling walls, and creating functional shapes like bowls, cups and mugs. Students will be shown how to maintain clean and healthy habits while working with clay, how to trim their pieces before firing, and how to properly glaze their pieces. The first class will focus on centering the clay, the next will be pulling walls into cylinders. Then trimming, throwing bowls, and forming attachments for handles. Lily will give a glaze demo halfway through the session and on the last two classes.  This class will start on January 8th and end on February 26th.     This class will introduce students to the steps of how to use the pottery wheel to make a cylinder/cup, bowl, mugs and some other techniques for smoothing the surface and adding texture.   • Join Jazzy for a taste of handbuilding with clay!  This class is aimed at clay beginners, and will introduce students to some of the basics & fundamental techniques of handbuilding with clay. We will learn how to use flat slabs of clay to create dishes and a square jar or planter, create small mugs and other forms with a pinching technique and learn about adding attachments like handles, sculpt a decorative hollow piece of fruit or a vegetable, and build with coils. Class will introduce students to various ways to add texture to each form, and glaze to accentuate textures and the form. We will learn to create slabs and coils by using studio equipment and by hand.  This class will start on January 8th and end on February 26th.
