Membership requirements: Monthly membership is available for ceramic artists with enough pottery experience to work independently in the studio on our equipment. Members must be knowledgable about the ceramic process and preventing creating clay dust. Membership if for hobby potters, we are not able to accommodate production potters. Those with less than 2 years of ceramics experience must take 3 classes at Cascade to become a member. Those with 2 or more years of ceramics experience must still take one class with us before becoming a member. Some exceptions for advanced level potters with recent cone 6 experience may be made. This is to make sure you have a good understanding of the studio, have a chance to get to know the instructors and some class friends, and get some experience using our glazes before being on your own with them. Minimum age for membership is 18. All members must agree to our studio code of conduct & terms of service upon signing up for membership. Please read and be familiar with our studio policies ahead of time! Monthly membership is automatically charged on your card each month starting on the day you purchase the membership, you may log into your account and choose to cancel it if you wish to stop. A members shelf must be cleared off by the last day of membership or what is left may be donated. Studio description: Cascade Ceramics has a friendly and collaborative atmosphere. Membership grants 24/7 Monthly Studio access by key fob to work at your desired convenience. We don't require scheduled "in-studio" time since we have 12 member designated wheels and lots of space to work in. We provide a 18 x 48 shelf for each member to store their projects, tools, clay, etc. Glazing and firings are included. We take care of the firings on a continual basis. Items are loaded as soon as they are dry and based on the size of work where it will fit in the kiln. We fire at cone 6. You may purchase Georgie's clay in the studio. If you bring in outside clay or glazes, please check with us that it fits our firing parameters(midrange cone 6) before using it. We provide a nice variety of house made glazes and some commercial underglazes to use on your pieces. There are two large worktables & a smaller work table with many handbuilding tools and banding wheels as well as many other community tools available for use in the studio. We have a Northstar slab roller, a large hardy-board wedging table and so on. We provide WIFI and take turns picking the music station. Click here to apply for membership! - Out of stockCome spend a creative day at the potter’s wheel! This workshop is ideal for beginners who are eager to explore the wheel and check out our studio. Your instructor will start by guiding you through the basics of pottery, demonstrating how to create a simple cup. Together, we’ll work on making cylinders, and then you'll have time to shape your own, receiving personalized feedback along the way. The session will wrap up 25 minutes early for clean-up and to choose your glaze colors. Your instructor will take care of firing and glazing your pieces, which will typically be ready for pick-up 4-6 weeks after the workshop. - In this beginning wheel class, Lily will introduce students to the process of pottery with centering the clay, pulling walls, and creating functional shapes like bowls, cups and mugs. Students will be shown how to maintain clean and healthy habits while working with clay, how to trim their pieces before firing, and how to properly glaze their pieces. The first class will focus on centering the clay, the next will be pulling walls into cylinders. Then trimming, throwing bowls, and forming attachments for handles. Lily will give a glaze demo halfway through the session and on the last two classes. This class will start on January 8th and end on February 26th. - This class is aimed towards folk who want to take their wheel throwing further and will focus on technique and more advanced project ideas. We will cover compound forms, nesting bowls/sets, thrown and altered forms, and lidded vessels. If there is a project you want to do, feel free to bring the idea to class and we can work it into the demos and class structure. Base requirements for the class is the ability to confidently throw 6 inch tall cylinders. This class will start on January 7th and end on February 25th. - In this intermediate wheel class, students will enhance their wall pulling skills and detail refinement, learn to throw larger amounts of clay, and make various functional pots such as tumblers, plates, pitchers and lidded jars. Week one will be a throwing exercise of making a 4-pull cylinder/tumbler, followed by a trimming demo on week two. The third week will be centering larger pieces of clay to make large bowls and plates, then glaze demo on week four. The last two projects will be a pitcher with a pulled spout, and lidded jars with inset galleries. Lily will also share how to create interesting forms through alterations like darting, paddling and altering rims. This class will start on January 7th and end on February 25th.
