- In this class, learn how to use pinching, slabs, and coils to make small scale functional and decorative projects. Students will be introduced to the proper procedures of working with the clay, drying their projects, and the bisque and glaze firing processes. Each week will cover a new technique, including pinched bowls, slab plates, and coiled cylinders. The projects will culminate in making a lidded jar and a wall-hanging piece. Lily will also teach the glazing process including wax resist, hand dipping, pouring, using dipping tongs, and brushing glaze. Every week Lily will offer multiple options to explore each technique, making this class friendly for both those new to clay and those who are looking to continue adding to their skills. This class will start on January 5th and end on February 23rd. Glazes, firing fees and one bag of clay is included in the class price. - In this advanced handbuilding class, students will be encouraged to explore large-scale, decoration, and sculpture to enhance their skills and possibilities. Lily will cover how to combine techniques to achieve the best result, use heat/time to help create larger work, and how to create sculptural elements of decoration. Projects will include a large coiled vase/storage pot, a lidded serving dish, a pouring-pot (think pitcher, olive oil ewer, teapot), and a sculpture based on either a reference image/object or sketch. Surface design techniques will cover underglazing on leather hard, and various ways of etching, inlaying, and layering color and design before and during the glazing process This class will start on January 6th and end on February 24th. - Join Jazzy for a taste of handbuilding with clay! This class is aimed at clay beginners, and will introduce students to some of the basics & fundamental techniques of handbuilding with clay. We will learn how to use flat slabs of clay to create dishes and a square jar or planter, create small mugs and other forms with a pinching technique and learn about adding attachments like handles, sculpt a decorative hollow piece of fruit or a vegetable, and build with coils. Class will introduce students to various ways to add texture to each form, and glaze to accentuate textures and the form.
